About

1989, Brasília, Brazil Lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil

David Almeida’s research is centered on pictorial experimentation across a range of media and supports, including canvas, linen, wood, ceramics, and printmaking. His practice focuses on the notions of space and the body in transit, exploring the visuality of intimate territory, the city, and the Brazilian regional landscape. Within the pictorial field, he investigates the boundaries between rural landscape and the imaginary, at times emphasizing the material density of figurative works and at others tending toward abstraction, or displacing natural elements into paintings with a metaphysical and spiritual tone. Almeida brings together the concepts of memory, body, phantasmagoria, and optical perception, creating paintings in which the intimacy of a culture or community subtly manifests itself within the landscape. In his work, places and sensations are intertwined with his method of representation, in which the density of a painted night is intimately connected to the oblique process of constructing it as an image.

Among his major solo exhibitions are Devagar com o andor que o santo é de barro, Museu da Inconfidência, Ouro Preto, Brazil (2026); Paisagens da Imprecisão, Cerrado Galeria, Brasília, Brazil (2025); Vigília, Millan, São Paulo, Brazil (2024); Arriba do Chão, Millan, São Paulo, Brazil (2022); A Task of Wonders, presented during his residency at Espronceda Art Center, Barcelona, Spain (2020); Lindeza, Referência Galeria de Arte, Brasília, Brazil (2019); Encalço, Mult.i.plo Espaço Arte, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2018); Paradeiro, Zipper Galeria, São Paulo, Brazil (2018); and Asseidade da Fenda, Elefante Centro Cultural, Brasília, Brazil (2016).
